JRF publishes new research on parenting 'mixed' children

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published new research entitled Parenting 'mixed' children: negotiating difference and belonging in mixed race, ethnicity and faith families. The report provides insights about parenting mixed children to inform debates about family life and professional strategies for support.

New research on antenatal depression and child developmental delay

New research from Toity Deave at the Centre for Child and Adolescent Health, University of the West of England, has shown that when mothers have antenatal depression their children are more likely to display developmental delay at 18months of age, even when postnatal depression is controlled for. The findings are reported in the July edition of BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

DCSF announce new mechanisms to ease poverty and increase social mobility

New pilot schemes to increase social mobility and ease poverty have been announced by the Children's Secretary Ed Balls, Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell and Chief Secretary to the Treasury Yvette Cooper. These will include Child Development Grants of around £200 to low income parents, and improved supported accomodation for teenage mothers.

Research from the DWP on maternity rights and mothers' employment

The Department for Work and Pensions has published new research entitled Maternity rights and mothers' employment decisions. The research shows that 88% of working mothers received some type of maternity pay.

Parenting services for most vulnerable to receive extra funding

Children's Minister, Beverley Hughes, has announced that parenting services for the most vulnerable parents including teenage parents, disabled parents and families facing break up, will be able to share an extra £8 million funding.

New Growing up in Australia report from AIFS

The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) has published the latest annual report from the Longitudinal Study Growing Up in Australia. The report includes information on perceived prosperity, child care arrangements, indicators of child health and wellbeing and breastfeeding among other things.

New US research into what makes a good parenting programme

New research has been published in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology identifying the key features of parenting education programmes that appear to have a positive impact on parenting and child behaviours. The meta-analysis was led by Jennifer Wyatt Kaminiski of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in the US.

NSPCC publishes new report on domestic violence within South Asian communities

The NSPCC has published a new report on the support need of South Asian women, children and young people who have experience domestic violence. The publication is entitled "I can't tell people what is happening at home": Domestic abuse within South Asian communities: the specific needs of women, children and young people.
