New survey from Relate on Cancer and its impact on relationships

Relate has published a new survey of 350 people finding that cancer puts a strain on their relationships. 72% reported that cancer had affected their sexual relationship with the partner, and 74% reported that they felt less attractive.

National Statistics finds 45% of marriages will end in divorce

National Statistics has published in Population Trends 131 - Spring 2008 new figures for the percentage of marriages ending in divorce. According to the new study on 'expected life of marriages' 45% of marriages will end in divorce.

New marriage, divorce and adoption statistics from National Statistics

National Statistics has published Marriage, Divorce and Adoption Statistics 2005 along with provisional marriage statistics for 2006. The provisional statistics show that the number of marriages has declined by 4% compared with 2005.

New research from IPPR: young people 'raised online'

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has published new research finding that many young people spend in excess of 20 hours a week online. Young people between the ages of 13 and 18 were interviewed and it was found that young people are 'constantly connected'. A lack of parental knowledge means that few understand what their children are doing online.

Government responds to Law Commission on cohabitation and relationship breakdown

Justice Minister Bridget Prentice has responded to the Law Commission's paper on Cohabitation: the Financial Consequences of Relationship Breakdown. The government will seek further research on the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 and await the outcome of the Scottish Executive's Research before bringing into effect any scheme proposed by the Law Commission.
