National Statistics finds rise in teenage conception rate
Provisional statistics from the Office for National Statistics show an increase in the under 18 conception rate. The rate has increased from 40.9 conceptions per 1,000 women aged 15-17 in 2006 to 41.9 in 2007.

Action for Children publishes survey on identifying and preventing neglect
Action for Children has published a new survey commissioned to highlight the difficulty of identifying and preventing neglect. The survey polled over 1,000 adults and found that 1 in 4 adults have been worried that a child they know or living in their area is being neglected.

New research finds children in stepfamilies benefit from time with grandparents
New research published in the Journal of Family Psychology, has found that spending time with a grandparent is linked with better social skills and fewer behaviour problems among adolescents, especially those living in single-parent or stepfamily households.

DCSF publishes research on Children's Centres
The Department for Children Schools and Families has published new research on Children's Centres. The research shows that whilst many parents who use Children's Centres are happy with the service, a minority of parents are unaware of thier local service.

New research from IFS, JRF and ISER on child poverty
New research funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), and carried out by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) and the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) has found that the government will need to spend more on tax-credits for low-income families in order to hit the short-term child poverty target for 2010-11.

Gingerbread publishes survey of single parents
Gingerbread has published a survey of over 500 separated parents. The survey found that most children (71%) do have contact with their non-resident parent but often both parents (resident and non-resident) want more contact with their child.

Netmums publishes online survey results on sex after a baby
Netmums has published the results of an online survey asking members about their sex and how having children has affected their sex lives. 78.9% of responders said they had less sex since having children.

Provisional marriage statistics for 2007 published by National Statistics
The Office for National Statistics has published provisional figures for marriage rates in England and Wales for 2007. The provisional statistics show a falling rate of marriage with 21.6 men marrying per thousand unmarried men down from 23.0 in 2006 and 19.7 women marrying per thousand unmarried women down from 20.7 in 2006.

New research by Civitas shows that young cohabiting couples still want to marry, with the main reason being to make a commitment. The research has been released to coincide with National Marriage Week.
