Government launches child poverty consultation
The government has lauched a consultation ahead of a Child Poverty Bill that will enshrine in legislation the promise to eradicate child poverty by 2020.

First pilots of ContactPoint announced
The government has announced the first pilots of ContactPoint. Front line practitioners will start training and operating the ContactPoint directory in the Spring and it will roll out across the country from the summer. The online directory will include basic contact information for all children.

25th British Social Attitudes Report published
The 25th Report of the British Social Attitudes survey has been published. The new publication includes a chapter on parenthood and looks at the public's attitudes towards parents and parenting.

General Household Survey 2007 published
National statistics has published the General Household Survey for 2007. The survey finds that 11% of people are currently in a cohabiting relationship an increase of 2 percentage points since 2000. The number of people currently in a married relationship has decreased by 2 percentage points since 2000 to 60%.

FPA launch Valentine's contraception campaign
As part of Contraceptive Awareness Week (9-15 February) the Family Planning Association is launching a campaign to help educate women about all of the contraceptive choices available to them. The aim of the campaign is to help match up all women with the contraceptive method that best suits their lifestyle.

Rise in number of inter-ethnic relationships in Britain
A new report published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission has revealed that the number of inter-ethnic relationships in Britain has risen, suggesting that people in Britain no longer view race itself as a meaningful basis when selecting a partner. The Commission has proposed that such findings reflect that Britain is becoming a more diverse and inter-related society.

Charity warns of neglect of 6-13year olds
Action for Children has revealed that between the ages of six and thirteen children undergo a crucial turning point consisting of fundamental emotional and physical development. The charity warns that if children going through this stage of life continue to be overlooked then this could lead to damaging and permanent effects later in life.

Family relations highlighted as most important contribution to young people's well-being
A new survey conducted by the Prince's Trust has revealed that young people rate family as the main determinant of their happiness. The survey also found that young people who are not in education, employment or training are more likely to be unhappy than those who are.

Childline warns that January could see an increase in the number of children experiencing parental divorce
Childline have warned that this January could see an increase in the number of children being affected by divorce, adding to calls for the Government to provide greater support for families and children experiencing parental divorce and separation.
